There are a couple of popular beaches in Mumbai namely Chowpatty and Juhu, which are always abuzz with a lot of Beach activities. Chowpatty, is a long stretch of white sand that looks attractive from a distance and is the most popular spot for people seeking evening outs. It is also a scene for the vibrant annual Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Juhu, a 5km beach fringed with palms and coconut trees, is a popular picnic spot and has a number of hotels and restaurants nearby.
 
     
 
Juhu Beach
 
 
Juhu is one of the most exotic beaches on the shores of Arabian Sea. It is located 18 kms north of the city centre Mumbai; Juhu is one of the biggest and regularly visited beaches of India. Juhu Beach is perfect for family outings and is visited by a large number of locals and tourists. Juhu beach is famous as the best hangout place of Mumbai city. The famous Bhelpuri and Kulfi sold on the beach lures innumerable tourists.
 
     
 
Marine Drive - Chowpatty Beach
 
 
The Marine Drive beach is also a central beach known as the Chopwpatty beach. It is situated in the center of Mumbai and is related to the historical freedom movement. Because of the dramatic curve of its streetlights at night, Marine Drive is also known as "Queen's Necklace".This beach is also a popular picnic spot for tourists as well as for local’s residents. The idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed at this beach, on the last day of famous Ganesha Chaturthi festival.
 
     
 
Madh Island Beach
 
 
A popular picnic spot, dotted with exquisite bungalows and an urban aura, the most lavish beach parties held outside Mumbai. The beaches are not particularly picturesque, strong currents and shifting sands make the sea too treacherous for swimming. The main reason to come here is to escape the urban environment, explore the fishing villages and enjoy a stroll along the seashore.
 
     
 
Marve-Manori-Gorai
 
 
Three beautiful and serene getaways. Marve is a quaint little fishing village, the nearest and the quietest of the three. Gorai and Manori, a little further away popular for all night beach parties. Watching sunsets and sunrises is really appealing here. Gorai is so near to Manori, and this beach offers the countryside feeling to visitors. Although, the waters of Gorai beach are safe for swimming throughout the year, it is advised to avoid during monsoon because of its treacherous currents.
 
     
 
Ganapatipule Beach
 
 
Ganapatipule Beach, one of the various virgin beaches of Maharashtra. Ganapatipule is located 375kms south of Mumbai alongside the Konkan coast. Pristine waters, never-ending stretches of gold and silver sand, rays of sunlight gently kissing the swinging palms, waves gently brushing the sand on the shore, accompanied by a mild breeze are the peculiarities of this beach.

Baseein
 
 
Baseein served as an important shipbuilding center, the site of the Portuguese defeat at the hands of the Marathas, a similar backdrop to that of Goa, one of the best choices to take some time off from the hectic schedule of city life. It is located on the northern side of the Bassein Creek, the river that separates Greater Mumbai from the Indian mainland. It has the atmospheric remains of the fortified city built by the Portuguese in 1534. It is said that the city had such pomp and splendour that it was known as the 'Court of the North'. The city walls are still standing with the ruins of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Mandwa Kihim beach is situated 12 miles distant from Alibag. It is 136 kilometers away from Mumbai. Distance by sea from Mumbai is 10 nautical miles. The nearest sea-port is Rewas. Mandwa Kihim has a calm and soothing effect on city dwellers. The place is ideal for nature lovers. Forests nearby bloom with wild flowers, rare birds and butterflies are seen. The famous ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali visited the place often.
 
     
 
Vijaydurg - Sindhudurg
 
 
This picturesque beaches, was once naval-bases of the Great Chattrapati Shivaji, Vijayadurg fort built by Shivaji in the 17th century. They bear testimony of Maharashtra's martial supremacy during his reign. Formally a dilapidated fortification of the Shilahar period Shivaji captured it from the Bijapur kings and made it into a major naval base.
 
     
 
Tarkarli
 
 
Tarkarli is a thin stretch of beach with pristine waters, located at the convergence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. It is 546 km away from Mumbai, 6 km south of Malvan, on the west coast of India. This place has gained prominence because of its transparently clear seas, where on a fairly sunny day; one can see the sea- bed up to a depth of 20 feet. This beach can be rightly called as ‘Queen Beach’ of Sindhudurg.
 
     
 
Velneshwar beach
 
 
This long and beautiful beach is clean and natural and is lined with coconut trees, swimming and other water sports, beach is free from rocks. North of the Shastri river lies the idyllic village of Velneshwar. The quite, coconut-fringed beach offers the visitor the ideal opportunity for swimming or just relaxing. There is an old Shiva temple in the environs which is often frequented by pilgrims. Velneshwar's tradition is the once a year in March mahashivratra fair is held in honour of the God Shankar or Shiva.
 
     
 
Vengurla - Malvan
 
 
Vengurala is 514 km away from Mumbai and 200 km from Ratnagiri. This beach is famous for its long stretch of shimmering sand, lined up with thick cashew, coconut, jackfruit and mango groves. Vengurla rocks or Burnt Islands is so near to this beach. Malvan has now become a part of the mainland. This area is thickly covered with palm trees. This place is famous for the temples of Shri Devi Sateri Temple and Rameshwar Temple as well.
