Diu has got a laid back atmosphere and is blessed some of the most scenic beaches of situated on the west coast of India. Gujarat also boasts with the longest coastline of India, with a stretch of the 1600-kms.

Ahmedpur Mandvi Beach

Ahmedpur Mandvi is at the border of the Union Territory Diu. Diu Island lies on the offshore of Gujarat mainland, minutes offshore from the mainland of Gujarat, yet has it makes the feel of being on a Mediterranean island. Mandvi is one of the premium beaches on the Gujarat shoreline. The beach is white and firm, ideal for walks and the water perfect for swimming. Seemingly unending, with sands ideal for castle building by kids, and shallow waters for a wading, this is a great spot for a family holiday. A variety of water sports like water scooters, skiing, surfing, para sailing, speed boat trips ...... are on offer.

Chorwad Beach

Chorwad, a small fishing village is a great place to enjoy. Chorwad is famous for rocky shores and boat riding. It is also a base to visit places like Porbandar, Somnath etc. The breathtakingly beautiful sea coast with its stunning limestone cliffs and great views, sea breezes and colorful birdlife, must have made an excellent break from the city during the summer months.

Gopnath Beach

The Gopnath beach has solid sands for walking and deep shore waters for wading. But the high tidal difference of the coast makes the water dark and not very inviting for a long swim. Gopnath is the base for some spectacular sightseeing. Talja a jain temple spiralling on a 350 foot high volcanic hill, Alang- world's largest ship breaking zone. Besides this one can enjoy shopping for furniture, food stuff, crockery, utensils, textiles, home appliances salvaged from the ships. The 700 year old Gopnath temple is perhaps the only one in India with flags of 2 colours a white flag denoting a Vishnu temple and a saffron flag representing a Shiva temple.

Kuch Mandavi Beach

Another excellent beach in Gujarat is in Mandvi, a historic port town of the Maharao's of Kutch. The port of Mandvi was an important sea trade post between the near east and the Far East which brought prosperity to the Royal family. Mandvi town was important city for the Maharaos of Bhuj being endowed with some splendid palaces and buildings. The Vijay Vilas Palace built in the 1940's depicts some splendid arcitectural features like umbrella domes and cupolas etc. For peace and harmony, visit the Maharao's private beach, accessible for a fee. Watch the sunset from the pavilion.

Mandvi beach has lovely blue waters, lots of birds, sandy beaches and colourful fishing points. Next to the beach are the docks where wooden ships are built. In the town one can see numerous old buildings, handicrafts like silverware, kutchi embroideries etc.

Somnath Beach

The shore temple of Somnath is one of the twelve 'Jyotirlingas of Shiva'. The temple is believed to have appeared first in gold, at the behest of the moon-god, next in silver, created by the sun-god, a third time in wood at the command of Krishna, and finally in stone, built by Bhimdeva, the strongest of the five Pandava brothers from Mahabharata. It contains one of the 12 sacred Shiva shrines known as Jyotirlingas. Not surprisingly, temple wealth came to the attention of the Mahmud of Ghazni, who captured and plundered so many of western India's cities (997 -1030); the temple was battered and pillaged, and its riches taken to Afghanistan. The present temple was commissioned by Sardar Patel in the 1950s. The temple is impressive; the aura of devotion even more awesome, but the high point is it's location by the blue waters of the Arabian Sea.

The beach of Somnath is unshaded but lovely, the views are just stupendous. The most impressive sight of Veraval is the fishing port, where thousands of trawlers, country crafts and dhows can be seen unloading their catch. The most famous excursion from here is ofcourse Sasan, the headquarters of the 1412 sq km Gir national park & wildlife sanctuary, one of the most important wildlife preserves in India.
