  AYURVEDA IN INDIA

Ayurveda is a primitive Indian medical science, the source of which can be traced back to the Vedas, which are the oldest available classics of the world. Vedas are the ancient books of knowledge, or science, from India. They contain practical and scientific information on various subjects beneficial to the humanity like health. Ayurveda combines physical, psychological and spiritual therapies in an approach to health that has addressed itself to the fundamental principles of good health and endurance. It has developed a tradition of medicine and a system of treatment based on the inherent ability of the human body to rejuvenate, to heal and to restore its natural balance.
Etymologically Ayurveda has two word- Ayu and Veda. Ayu means life and Veda stands for the knowledge. Ayurveda is a science of life. It tells what is good and what is not for the healthy life. A science dealing with the details about the life, its endurance and eminence is Ayurveda. An eternal knowledge, aimed to cure the diseases of all creatures which tells us how to use foods, herbs and other natural resources for maintenance of health. It is clear that Ayurveda is a complete knowledge about life, how to live life in a healthy way and to achieve harmony with the nature.

Ayurveda considers each and every thing of this universe to be composed of five great elements (Panchmahabhootas). Same applies for Tridoshas besides this these have some elements in higher proportion than others and these are considered to be made of those elements in higher proportion. Ayurveda is based on a system of Tridosha or Three Humours

  Vata Dosha

The vata dosha is associated with air and ether, and in the body promotes movement and lightness. Vata people are generally thin and light physically, dry-skinned, and very energetic and mentally restless. When Vata is out of balance, there are often nervous problems, hyperactivity, sleeplessness, lower back pains, and headaches.

  Pitta Dosha

Pitta is associated with fire and water. In the body, it is responsible for metabolism and digestion. Pitta characteristics are medium-built bodies, fair skin, strong digestion, and good mental concentration. Pitta imbalances show up as anger and aggression and stress-related conditions like gastritis, ulcers, liver problems, and hypertension.

  Ayurvedic Treatments

Treatment in Ayurveda means to maintain the body in the harmony of nature. Harmony results from a series of harmonious actions in the body. Required harmony for health according to Ayurveda starts from the cellular level. When, all the cells are in a proper harmony this will lead to harmony at tissue level. From tissue level we can shift this harmony at organ level from where it will lead to the body level harmony. Today, modern sciences are of a belief that when body is perfect inside, it is perfect. Ayurveda is of a different opinion about all this. Now, when body is in a perfect harmony, now it requires being in harmony with the surroundings.
Ayurvedic treatment, approach has following unique concepts with it, this are- To pacify the vitiated Dosha, without disturbing the normal one.

To pacify the vitiated Dosha, without disturbing the normal one.
To reverse the pathology and to get back the physiology of body.
To eliminate the Doshas which have exceeded more than a limit.
To bring back the harmony among different body parts after cure of a disease which was lost during the course of a disease.
When we are curing a disease, no other disease should be appearing in the due course of treatment i.e. there should be no side effect of any of the drug.

As we know very well that human body comprises three different parts named – Body, mind and soul, for all of these parts Ayurvedic scholars developed different types of treatments these are as follows

Yuktivyapaashraya Chikitsa - “Yuktivyapaashraya” is a term of Sanskrit language meaning, planning a treatment by using different herbs, food items and different drinks like- Milk, Buttermilk and even water. Trough this type of Chikitsa (Sanskrit term for treatments) Doshas in side the body are controlled through different ways.
Devvyapaashraya Chikitsa - This type of treatment is to treat the problems with the soul parts of the body. In this type Ayurveda asks to do Yajyas (The holy rituals), offerings to the natural powers and reciting the chants.
Satvaavjayaa Chikitsa - Problems with the psyche part are treated through this. This is done by keeping mind away from the bad ideas, objects and thoughts and tending it towards healthy ideas, objects and thoughts. Proper Yoga practice helps in it.
